Broadway-Bound ALI Musical Cancels Chicago Run

www.broadwayworld.com: The Chicago run of ALI, the new musical celebrating the life and legacy of Muhammad Ali, has canceled what it had billed as a pre-Broadway engagement in Chicago. The production had been set to open at the James M. Nederlander Theatre from in April and May 2025.

It’s always a shame when a show cancels their run and I wish the article had elaborated on why this run of ALI was canceled in Chicago to begin with. The official statement stated that it was due to scheduling conflicts in key departments of the team, however I find that there must’ve been something larger going on with the production for them to cancel the run. I would like to believe that if departments were behind schedule they would be able to move opening night rather than cancel the whole run. I think that canceling a run of a show takes a lot of forethought anyway because of how much money, people and products are involved to make this decision possible. I hope that this production of ALI does get produced and performed on stage soon because from how the article described it, it sounds incredibly inspiring and like a hopeful story that audiences will enjoy hearing.
