Netflix EU creator pay

nofilmschool.com: If you're out on the lines during the summer of labor in 2023, one of the things that comes up over and over again is streaming residuals. Everyone is talking about it. The ask is pretty simple: if you create something for a streamer and it's a hit, actors and writers want to be paid.

While reading this article it reminded me of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes. The concepts being fought for in the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are similar to those in the article. In the article, the creators are fighting for more pay for everyone involved in the production whether on stage or behind the scenes. Similarly, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are fighting for better pay and job security for their unions. In the article, Germany was able to work out with Netflix to pay streaming residuals to those on stage and behind the scenes as compensation for their work. This article very clearly demonstrates why the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are so important. This is because if other countries are able to work out negotiations with these large corporations then they should be able to as well.
