Best Higher Education/Research - The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts

Engineering News-Record: The team behind the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Belmont University in Nashville had to build a space as beautiful to the ear as it is to the eye. Completed in September 2021, the center features two recital halls, a 12,000-sq-ft grand lobby and a 1,700-seat performance hall.

This performing arts center is just absolutely beautiful. The first thing that obviously catches my eye is the photo of the roof, which is a green roof. The caption of the photo says it’s for campus events, which I think is very peaceful and calming, as well as good for the environment. Looking at the rest of the images provided and disregarding all of the specs, the space is, in my opinion, a perfect mix of modern and classic. It has sharp lines with LED lights like newer modern spaces, but columns, the floors, and the elevated ceiling gives it an old, classic look. Now looking at the specs, I can really appreciate that the building has adjustable acoustics. It makes the building so much more of a performance space, rather than just one theatre on the inside. It’s also interesting to see why they chose concrete as a structure for the building and for steel trusses to be used.
