What made me happiest reading this article was that the company women for their leadership positions. As redundant as it may sound, women in leadership positions is not a common occurrence. As qualified as they would be, sexism somehow has always managed to creep up and reduce their qualifications to nothing above their gender. But I think that the pause that the pandemic put on the theater industry gave the industry a moment to step back and see for itself the shortcomings and how detrimental they were for its several employees. I think that NextStop Theater is walking in the right direction to get away from its previous ways and choosing a more equitable route for the future. I think that all the people that they have employed for these positions have so much experience and diverse set of opinions that it will only help the theater and grow in the future.

Just like Reesha, what made me happy about this article was the fact that women are in leadership positions. What made me even happier was that within the new members of the leadership team are women of color. It’s so rare to see women of color in leadership positions. Companies in all industries have been preaching diversity and inclusion for so long, but often times, it’s simply a way to save face. They appoint a director of diversity and inclusion who happens to be a person of color, but in reality the DE&I office isn’t permitted to make any real change. Bringing these women of color onto the NextStop leadership team only pushes further the fact that people of color, and in this case, specifically women of color, are capable and qualified enough to take on these roles. Female voices are so important. I hope these women and the rest of the NextStop Theatre Company leadership team are able grow and evolve together.
