L-Acoustics Points the Way to Great Sound for Church on the Move
LightSoundJournal.com
: Church on the Move truly lives up to its name. Established in 1987 with a mere 163 worshipers, the fast-growing Tulsa, Oklahoma organization now has over 7,000 members worshiping at three campuses surrounding a 2,200-seat main sanctuary. Recently, that primary location underwent a major systems renovation that included the installation of a new K2 loudspeaker system, designed and installed by Oklahoma City-based Skylark AV, an L-Acoustics Certified Provider, Install.

The level of production that modern American Protestant churches put into services(that are much more like concerts) is absolutely mind-blowing, and this article is a microcosm of that new Christian culture. While I could go into the moral and religious implications of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars for worship spaces and making worship unnecessarily expensive, I would be here forever. I do however want to talk about the unique acoustic challenges of achieving both high vocal clarity simultaneously within a loud wide-range sound system in large concert venues like these church spaces. Besides modifying the space with lots of acoustic paneling, the production team chose K2 speakers that provide significant clarity while also being able to produce the volume desired for the more musical parts of worship. The amount of speakers used in this setup is honestly astonishing to me, but it’s what this church desired and the AV company could provide. It is very well done, I just still can’t wrap my mind around the resourcing for worship services like this.

This is totally insane to me. Not in a bad way but an impressive way. It is really crazy to see how large these church rigs can get. The pictures of this venue look like a full on concert venue, but it is used solely for worship services. The amount of money that goes into these facilities is mindblowing to me. I can’t imagine the budget for the Church on the Move. I’m always impressed by these L-Acoustics systems. I actually have read a ton of articles on this page as well as heard from many others in the business that they will only use L systems because they are the best. I LOVE that there are 8 subs under the stage of this church. That is totally awesome. It is really great to be able to find a brand of equipment that you love and just be able to always use it if you have to budget for it.
