A new DAWN for arts funding?
Ghost Light | Chicago Reader: When he was a kid in Rogers Park, Matthew-Lee Erlbach says trips to theaters like Lifeline and TimeLine and excursions to downtown museums were just "part of the vocabulary of growing up in a city that is so rich in its arts and culture and that appreciates arts and culture workers."

The numbers brought up in this article were really fascinating to read. I have known how bad the arts and entertainment industries have been hit by COVID but I did not know that those losses represent more than a quarter of all sales nationwide. Erlbach mentioned that the COVID crisis has made people evaluate just how important the arts are for them. And I think that people have been finding that they are relying on arts for entertainment and something to do during this pandemic, but people are still unable to recognize that those industries need help right now. I think what the DAWN act is looking for is ambitious like this article points out but I also think their wants are completely warranted and comparing it to the airline industry is smart because they did get a lot of support when their industry was hit. And I think it is hard to deny that the live performing arts industry was hit extremely hard and is in need of support right now. I hope this DAWN act works and the support is given, but with the way these have been going so far, it’s not looking too good.
