I enjoyed looking through this slide show and seeing what other people in the sound world found useful, however am still left wanting more. The slide show doesn't delve into each individual app as a comparison, but rather points out major areas that apps can be useful. The first slide looks at Audio or Spectrum analyzers, which are great in a pinch but I wouldn't really rely on a phone app with a sub-optimal microphone to get a good reading of a room. The next slide focuses on signal generators, and I actually downloaded one of them since the one I had was out of date. After that, though, we jump into playback, and I was happy to see QLab's "Go Button" listed, since it can be a really quick tool for playback from a phone. Additionally, I've used the "Go Button" as a network device that can be controlled from QLab itself to playback cues such as a ringtone. However, there was no mention of the main QLab platform or that QLab has a separate remote app to control the main workspace. The slideshow then switches gears and offers apps for ear training (an invaluable tool) and time management, which can be expanded to all facets of our industry. Nevertheless, even with the apps suggested in the article, I am left wanting more options and more comparisons.
