An immersive Dr. Seuss exhibit is coming to Boston: While the grin-inducing rooms of “Happy Place” left Boston in June, a new collection of brightly colored, interactive spaces will hit the city in the coming months. And this one may get to your sentimental side.

I really hope this comes to Pittsburgh, but if not, I see some travel plans in my future. I grew up on Dr. Seuss. They are some of the first books I used to learn how to read. I will admit however that I am not the biggest fan of immersive theatre so this exhibit will be a challenge for me. I do however, like the message that it is intending to deliver and that is of a pro-social message. Every single story written by Dr. Seuss has a message and having an interactive exhibit that tells that message as well as allows patrons to put themselves into the story is a great example of using art and creativity to deliver a message about social change and the need to modify or adapt our behavior as humans in order to make the world a better place. I’m glad to see the Geisel estate playing a part of this. I have no doubt that it will be incredible.

This installation hits a particularly sentimental note for me. I grew up with the Dr. Seuss books. My parents would typically read me two or more of the whimsical picture books every night before I went to bed, with me occasionally requesting the same book or books multiple nights in a row. Dr. Seuss was an amazing author and artist and his books will surely live on well into the farthest reaches of the future. Even to this day, the lyrical genius and whimsical artistry of Dr. Seuss never fails to brighten my day and bring a smile to my face. I currently have five young nephews, ranging from newborn to five years old who absolutely love the books of Dr. Seuss. If this installation ever makes its way to my hometown in Los Angeles, and I am in town, I will do everything I can to take my nephews to this incredible installation, but not just for their enjoyment, but for my own as well, so I can go back in time and relive my childhood.
