This article caught my eye because I am always intrigued by Microsoft Templates. Microsoft has templates for calendars resumes, invitations, posters galore and I am always wary. Teachers in school for calendars and budgets tell us not to use templates but never have told us about staying away from resume or business card templates. I’m sure in Professional Prep or another class we will go into if people care if these templates are used for self-marketing material but nevertheless, I am still curious. This article makes me wonder what hiring people are looking out for in the style. Do they care that I used a Microsoft Template or would they rather see a personally designed care? I understand why the article points out to go to the paid templates but I am also impressed at the free Microsoft templates that this article points out. To my eye, the templates look good but would a recruiter know/care if I used them? Though this article didn’t answer my questions regarding templates, it sure jogged my brain and will be a question that I ask the next time someone looks at my resume.
