The Future of AI and Audience Engagement in the Arts
AMT Lab @ CMU: The arts have the power to transform lives, bring us closer to our own humanity and offer understanding of the world around us as it is, has been, and could be. In our current system we have placed institutions firmly between the audience and the art. Hence, it is the institutions responsibility to foster a connection to the art with the broadest available audience while also supporting all available modes for each audience member to find their connection and transformation.

Artificial Intelligence is a phenomenal tool and can expand indefinitely. In the arts, there was a limit for thousands of years, art to the viewer directly. Now that AI is expanding, it can become one of the most useful tools in the arts, especially theatre. Given that it is so new, there is a huge unknown in the field. One thing that most theatre artists can agree upon is that it will be helpful, and not hurtful. Those who say it could be hurtful are typically backed upon the stance that theatre and the arts should be a limited branch with audience's viewing it directly. While I agree that this is a valid viewpoint, I would argue that it assists with the perceptions and reactions of the audience, and does not hinder them. The large majority of AI platforms in the arts and theatre are mostly there to guide us and give us a new depth that was previously not achievable.
