I didn’t know that Cinderella is becoming a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I read an article about shows being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and found out that Cinderella is one of it. And, I am already disappointed. Just so you know, I define myself as an Ally, who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, and LGBT social movements, and etc. However, I am tired of productions “re-interpreting” old traditional folk tales due to the extreme obsession to the “political correctness.” In fact, turning Prince Charming gay is not an interpretation. That story is something rather than Cinderella. You don’t suddenly make a person in a history book gay without any evidence, but just to balance it out. The production’s obsession with political correctness and excessive sense of mission to present “the new norm” to society are messing up the original story, which has been handed down for many years.
