I am very fond of this play, even though I have not yet seen it. I was in a Spanish class last year and we spent a lot of time talking about the history of the Dominican Republic and various other countries. We discussed this play at great length and, while I was not able to attend the class trip to see a performance of the play, I heard all about it and feel like I know it quite well now. Especially after learning first about the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, it was a lot easier to understand the historical context of the play and the importance of these four women in telling the story of this period of time. The play does a really good job of conveying the intense tension of this time in the Dominican Republic, especially as it is framed through an interview with the only one of the four sisters who survived Trujillo.
