2019 Oscars Lighting Design | 91st Academy Awards
www.livedesignonline.com: Lighting designers Bob Dickinson and Travis Hagenbuch—both 2018 KOI-USA Award winners—lit the 91st Academy Awards, illuminating sets by David Korins for a glamorous evening. The Oscars were broadcast live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 24, attracting 29.6 million viewers. I love the photo with the umbrellas. I think it is beautiful and the designers did an amazing job. I love lighting design because the use of colors can be so nice and create the most beautiful things. I, however, cannot do it. I have tried and not ever understood how they can combine the colors because I am used to mixing colors like paint and not as light. I really want to understand because I feel like it is a useful skill to know for any career in theater. Especially since I am interested in dance costuming and lighting is a lot more diverse in that area. I think that the Oscars is an interesting place for this amount of lighting design but I also understand the need for this award ceremony to have a lot of grandeur. I am excited to see how this evolves over the next couple of years because it can go so many places with new technology and ideas.
