Magic Leap Plans to Use Location-Based Entertainment to Win Consumers
Variety: Magic Leap is taking some cues from one of the latest trends in virtual reality: The maker of the Magic Leap One headset is looking to use location-based entertainment to get consumers familiar with its technology, and ultimately prepare them to buy its headsets once a mass-market version is available to the general public.

I think this is an interesting business strategy. The company is planning to use their VR technology as more of an installation art piece in certain places, rather than make it available to the consumers first. I’m not a VR expert but I can see this working- when set up in a single place that doesn’t change, I imagine that the experience they will be able to create for visitors will be much grander than anything that could appear in a customer’s house, for example. By doing this, they could create interest in their product because of the cool things people see in their location-based example, and then when it becomes commercially available people would flock to buy it because they’ve seen this cool demonstration. However, I do wonder about how they plan to get enough interest to become well-known. VR is still a fairly niche field, and from a quick glance their demonstration seems like an art installation rather than a gaming innovation; I feel like it would attract different people than their target audience. Regardless, I think that their technology looks impressive and look forward to seeing how this plays out.
