Structural Engineering Magazine, Tradeshow: Structural Design Requirements for Entertainment Venues
STRUCTUREmag: The impact of the entertainment industry on the economy is substantial. In 2005, the average American spent 9.2 hours a day on leisure activities and the average U.S. household spent more than 5% of net income on entertainment activities. Construction of new facilities and renovation of existing structures for entertainment related purposes was between 3% and 8% of the total annual building construction for the United States in 2006. Many of these facilities are intended for live entertainment purposes, such as theatres, concert facilities, outdoor venues and related specialty structures.

This is an extremely informative article that every prospective rigger, architect, or engineer should take a look at. It's pretty amazing to think of all the things that need to be thought about when designing a system for future entertainment purposes, especially when it is so space specific. The design of the system has to keep in mind of the very first show to use it, and the one after that, and the tenth one after that. It is so important to make sure the system is flexible, and durable to be usable for any type of show or load.
