Set by set, prolific designer Ferrieri builds long theater career

TribLIVE: Paul Ford believes set designer Tony Ferrieri may be the hardest-working person in show business. “If not the hardest, he's definitely in the top five,” says Ford, the technical director at City Theatre.
Ferrieri's main job is director of production and resident scenic designer for City Theatre on the South Side.

It is fascinating to see talented artists working and living in Pittsburgh. I think what stood out to me most in this article is the fact that, in his educational career, Ferrieri took acting, directing, and criticism course. He says those experience allows him to create sets that are successful. I hope to become a successful scene designer and I think that Ferrieri has touched on an important point. All artists, including scene designers need experiences other than their craft in order to become the most developed artist that they can be. I hope that my experience in architecture will help me become a better scene designer than I could have become without that experience.

Tony is one of the coolest people that I have worked with. He is a good family friend of my mom, so I've been seeing his work forever. He is an incredible designer that can really take something that one would think is a limitation, but turn it into something beautiful. I had the pleasure of working with him this past summer at Quantum, and watching that design come to life is incredible. He is definitely a figure in the Pittsburgh theater community that has watched transformation happen and is helping create a very innovative future.
