Young adults and college grads heading back to Pittsburgh

popcitymedia.com: "A new study by a Brookings demographer shows where the young adults and college graduates are heading to start their 'real world' lives. Instead of moving to smaller metro areas, they are going for larger cities and college towns. Pittsburgh makes the list, now gaining a younger population instead of losing it.

It's not surprising to see youth migrating to pittsburgh. it's the number two college town in the united states and full of everything a young person in a major city would want. being that it is the number one most livable city in the US is also a good reason why. its affordable which is a huge draw to younger people who don't have the financial support to live in major cities like New York where the price of living is likely four times that of living in pittsburgh. much of where a young person choses to live is bad=sed on prices and entertainment. its also where the work is and there is alot of work to be had in pittsburgh

This is great to hear that Pittsburg is becoming a magnet for younger people. I think a possible reason why this is because it is a medium sized city and has a moderate cost of living. I know when I lived here10 years ago it did not have many young people living hear or wanting to move here. Now this it is great, I hope that young people continue to move hear. I know that I like the city and there are many things to do for young people but it could also use more. It takes young people to be here to demand and create what they are looking for. I guess the casino is something that could be part of a solution to this. There needs to be more things to do to keep them in Pittsburgh.

I'm not to terribly surprised by this article. When I decided to attend CMU my father sent my many articles on the city I was about to move too. All the articles mentioned how the crime rate was low, the theater and culture life very active, and its a huge college city. There are a ton of universities here and I never realized it until I moved here this fall. Kids are probably settling here because they become used the place they have been in for four years. It's also a great city that has a lot going for it right now. I don't see why you wouldn't want to settle down in Pittsburgh after graduation. It's a very nice city.

It makes perfect sense that Pittsburgh is gaining a younger population. Like Jared said, it is very affordable. There are so many affordable things to do like bowling, ice skating, movies, water parks, etc. Its also the perfect mix of city and suburbs. an article i read about Pittsburgh said that from mt. washington, the view is the second best in the united states. Its going to be really hard for me to leave after Carnegie Mellon. I love it here. Go Steelers!
