#SupplyDemand: It’s all a matter of perspective
24 Usable Hours: "Ok, I can’t resist. I know you haven’t heard from me in months and months (I survived an 80 day trip around the world btw! More on that coming soon), but I wanted to submit a few thoughts on the #supplydemand discussion inspired by this talk by NEA Chair Rocco Landesman (note that this particular discussion begins around 42 minutes in, and is mentioned several times again later).

Probably the hardest graph to look at in this article was the rapidly declining theater attendees. At least the reasoning for this article and the decline of theater goers is because of the unnecessary rise in theater supply, and not the cry "Art is dead!". While it's easy to say that we should cut down supply, it's not as easy to implement. It's obvious that a great deal of the rising ticket prices have to do with the amount of money companies are spending on shows. Everyone today is pushing and pushing technology. The hottest new shows are the ones with the craziest stunts and technological advances. Spiderman's tickets wouldn't be so steep if it wasn't for their ever growing debt, but there is something to be said for marketers getting a little too excited. The expensiveness of ticket prices deter a lot of people from attending theater. I believe however that there a number of marketing techniques and issues in addition to excess supply. It is absolutely something to keep in mind as we move on into our fields.
