I am sad to hear that Mr. Harrington is resigning from his position at the Public. They are a theatre I have been following since I started really going to shows in New York, and I find their work, whether good or bad, to always be somehow fresh and exciting. In my opinion, they are one of the really prominent players in the Off-Broadway world, and I think that has been especially true since Oskar Eustis and Mr. Harrington began work together: the Public has sent more of its limited-run plays to have longer lives on Broadway, brought in new exciting artists, and begun work on renovating their phenomenal space on Lafeyette street. Having worked at an off-broadway theatre this summer in the process of bringing in a new executive director, I recall that it meant a lot of confusion while people reassessed their roles, but I have a lot of faith that the Public can continue to do the great work they did under Mr. Harrington with help from Mr. Parnes (another producer whose work I greatly respect), and that they can keep giving the off-broadway scene the attention it deserves: there is great stuff happening there.
