Who Let the Dogs Out? '101 Dalmatians' Musical Parks and Barks in Minneapolis

Yahoo! News: "Rachel York is Cruella de Vil, the villainess with a taste for fur, in the new family-friendly touring show The 101 Dalmatians Musical, which is unleashed in its world premiere starting Oct. 13 at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis."

Really?!? Another Disney movie made musical? I guess the others are all very successful, but really, do we need another movie turned musical? While I love 101 Dalmatians, it still seems ridiculous to make it into a musiial, but whatever makes you money I guess.

Wow is there any movie that's not being made into a play right now? At least this isn't another Disney money-making attempt. It excites me this is a non-Disney affiliated project, though I still have little hope for a 101 Dalmations musical...It's just not a very developed concept. I will say i am dubious of using real dogs. Dogs always upstage actors, they are too entertaining. Between an actor and a cute dog i'd probably pick the dog if I were an audience member.

While I love the story of the plight of 101 canines, there are some stories that have no need to be recreated in many different media. Last year, some excerpts from the show were sung at Broadway in the Park in Chicago. Let me just say, based on what I heard from the people that attended, you should not go to see this performance for amazing lyrics.
Each form of art has its own unique properties, and just because a story is successful in one media, does not mean that it will be in another. While the story could be told in many different ways, the medium in which it is presented can completely change the effect of the piece. Whether this change is for the good... we will see.
