'The History Boys,' 'Ruined' Top Chicago's Jeff Awards
Backstage: "A full house greeted the 41st annual Joseph Jefferson Awards Oct. 19 at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie. The awards for excellence in Chicago-area Equity theater brought few surprises, but the expected winners were wildly popular in an evening dedicated to December's 50th anniversary of The Second City."

It's really nice to see that a smaller theatre company doing their first Equity show can stand up to the likes of the Court and the Goodman. It shows that the Jeff Awards are wide spread across the Chicago theatre scene. I hope this is a sign that more small theatre companies will take a chance and move up in their community.
Firstly, congrats to Max Quinlan and Summer Smart, winners of the Best Supporting Actor/Actress for playing Clara and Fabrizio in my production of The Light in the Piazza this summer! It is great to see how History Boys swept the play categories, even taking the ensemble award from Steppenwolf's Seafarer and Chicago Shakespeare's Richard II. I was somewhat surprised Drury Lane Oakbrook did not win more awards, especially for their incredible production of Miss Saigon. That said, congrats to all the winners!
