Arts & Culture in Pennsylvania's FY2010 Budget
Philaculture.org: "State governments, like all sectors of the economy, have been hit hard by the national recession, and Pennsylvania is no exception. Declining revenues and a difficult economy forced the state to create a leaner FY2010 budget, down $500 million from FY2009’s total of $28.3 billion. This has led to cuts in many areas, including arts and culture. This article outlines the status of arts and cultural funding in the recently-adopted FY2010 budget."

I suppose this is a composite of several Newsblog articles from the past few weeks. I noticed in the budget that the film tax credit cap was lowered from $75 million to $42 million for this year, with increases promised to $60 million next year. I commented earlier that I wasn't sure whether or not this was a good plan for the state, since it may lose film productions that would have otherwise filmed in the state because of the credits. Similarly, there are significant cuts for public libraries, public television and arts education. However, it was very encouraging to see that the arts sales tax (previously proposed for 8%) was struck down violently.
