Dance preview: Texture goes 'Wild'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Think ballet is all pointe shoes and port de bras? The troupe's dancers, under the direction of founding artistic director Alan Obuzor and associate artistic director Kelsey Bartman, turn these expectations inside out with choreography and approaches unafraid to try new things.

I am really interested to see how this piece turns out. Ballet is the foundation of all dance, and it starting to appear more and more in in places that you would not think it would appear in. What makes this so interesting to me is that it combines the technique of the movement with new modern styles.

Texture seems like a really neat company. Their website showed that both of the directors and many of their dancers are from or went to school in Pittsburgh. I couldn't find any sort of mission statement or theme for the company, but their photo and video galleries showed a really unique, modern form of ballet. I love the way modern dance and ballet are not so strict when it comes to form and precision. It makes for a far more interesting, organic performance.
