Ah… Heathers… Regardless of what I say concerning the content of the show itself, hooray for the cast and crew of the Off-Broadway Tour! As someone who rode the Heathers hype train for quite some time a few years ago, it’s really interesting for me to reflect back on this musical. As the article implies, Heathers surely isn’t dying in popularity, otherwise how would they be able to confidently execute this tour? But, as the hype has died down a little, I think it’s important to recognize some of the backlash the show has received. For starters, its glorification of violence and (potential glorification of) suicide. While I am in absolutely no way stating that these topics shouldn’t be discussed at all, I do think Heathers goes to a bit of an extreme in its “dark humor” surrounding topics that may be better suited to be covered in less of a comedic sense. Of course, this is all personal taste, but I do think it’s part of a larger conversation that could come up from Heathers stepping back into the spotlight with this tour.

Heather's the musical will always hold a special place in my heart. Despite the unbelievably morbid plot of the show, in my opinion, it deserves all of the hype it has ever gotten. Just as the article had implied Heather’s has not seemed to die in popularity and has continued with a steady fanbase. This show seems to be especially popular among the younger generations as it does take place in a high school setting along with some interesting characters. Yes it is a very entertaining show but it is pretty violent for a broadway show. I have always been one for dark humor and this show has a lot of it but some of it can be a bit too much for a younger audience. Personally this is a fantastic show but in the long run it may be a good idea for there to be a age cap on the audience maybe.

I honestly have always wanted to see Heathers so this is the perfect opportunity! I have always adored the music in Heathers but never got to see it. My high school never did a production of Heathers which is usually the way that I would see production that was no longer being shown professionally. I know the basic story beats and I REALLY know the songs, but I really don’t know the full story and I want to. Like I want to know why certain things happen or what happens after certain parts of the story. I’m also super excited to potentially hear the songs live and see the choreography. I’ve always been curious about what they do on stage during certain parts. So, I will most definitely be trying to get tickets to see this at some point. Anyways, I’m super excited to see it and I am so glad that this opportunity arose.
