This is the kind of performance I love to see, just reading about this made me jealous. I’m nearing the end of my current sound class, and honestly I don’t think it’s something I’ll end up pursuing but it was extremely interesting to learn about. I’ve understood a basic sound system for sure, but to understand the amount of artistry and thought that goes into something like that is really incredible. To even start considering how big you want the space to feel is amazing to me, we underestimate the power of sound design. This is all of my values in entertainment shoved into one production, absolutely incredible. This article about the sound design makes me want to watch the performance, though I’m sure a recording would not be at all the same- a truly amazing performance takes place when design elements compliment each other, which it sounds like here. From costumes to venues to the audio itself, everything tells the same story. We live in an age of abstract performance, experimental ideas, and trying new things- our arts should reflect that.
