The Olympics are coming to one of America's top theme parks

www.themeparkinsider.com: With the 2028 Summer Olympics coming to Los Angeles, Universal Studios Hollywood will be one of the many local venues hosting events for the games. And the park will be using one of its most iconic locations for that.

Not going to lie, when I think of the Olymipcs I do not think of theme parks, however I can foresee a world in which theme parks become part of the spectacle of the Olympics. It’s interesting that one of the events, squash, will take place on location. I mean it makes sense to use large open spaces that are already created and not shell out every new space possible. With the Olympics coming to LA and with the city's LA 2028 plan, I am intrigued to see how much infrastructure they are truly able to rework. With the fires throughout LA earlier this year it will also be interesting to see whether or not the rebuilding of the city will utilize the LA 2028 plan or whether or not they will intend to revert back to the city’s original infrastructure. In terms of the Olympics being hosted I am quite nervous about how LA, which is already a very populated area that is spread across miles with commuting times already, will hold up.

Hosting the Olympics is a massive undertaking no matter the location, and I think it is definitely a test of a city’s ability to competently plan an event that will be broadcast around the world. I never thought about the possibility of a theme park hosting the Olympics, as every example I’ve heard of were large sporting arenas specifically designed for Olympic events. It seems like a promising endeavor, and I wonder what the planning of an event like the Olympics entails in a space like this, as far as logistics and technical direction. I would love to see how they approach this, especially since the theme park is operational and may interfere with the load in. I wonder if there were any other facilities or arenas in LA that could have been used for the Olympics. However they do it, the disruption to the city is a given and can’t really be avoided. In the end, maybe choosing a theme park that is kind of closed off in its own little universe is the best way to minimize the disruption.
