10 Things We Learned About the Star Trek: Red Alert Experience at Universal Fan Fest Nights
gizmodo.com: io9 recently went on a behind-the-scenes tour of Universal Studios Hollywood’s Fan Fest Nights to get an early glimpse at its immersive attractions. It’s pretty sweet the way this experience is trying to bridge Picard and TNG. (I still need to watch TNG. When I accidentally killed my old computer 2 days into this schoolyear, my dad included all of TNG on the backup hard drive he mailed to me.) It’s pretty cool how this exhibit is designed to integrate its technical features into the world of Star Trek, like how the LED wall is acknowledged as a “forcefield” and how the presence of the “turbolifts” is explained. The replicator mentioned is a neat touch; the article doesn’t mention how it was created, but if I were to guess it’s probably Pepper’s Ghost. I would also love to get a more thorough explanation of the transporter beam effect, which frankly sounds a little bit more like the sort of airlock you go through when you’re leaving an artificial butterfly enclosure than a transporter.
