Universal’s $6 billion Epic Universe park opens soon: what to expect
Fast Company: The theme park wars will shift into an even higher gear right before Memorial Day. On May 22, Universal Orlando is scheduled to open Epic Universe, it’s $6 billion expansion that’s meant to lure more visitors away from the Magic Kingdom and other assets of Walt Disney World and make the company’s theme-park hub a seven-day visit for tourists.

Okay six billion dollars is a lot of money to fund a theme park but I guess it makes sense because it's Universal and they will have a lot of money. I think out of all of these rise I would really want to go on the Mario Kart ride in the Harry Potter ride because who doesn't love a good Mario Kart race and Harry Potter is very interesting I really like the design of that world so I think you'd be interesting to go on that ride and see that but I would really want to stay in the hotel and run up and down the Halls at 2:00 in the morning because that's so fun. These Resorts look absolutely gorgeous as well as all the pools but the tickets are $122 per day which is a little bit out of my college girl budget so according to girl math I cannot afford to go so maybe I'll stay this time but if I ever do go I would love to ride the Harry Potter and Mario Kart ride.
I will be very interested to see what becomes of this new theme park and how much competition it gives Disney. As the article pointed out Disney must be concerned because they announced their own new park areas and are spending quite a good bit of money on it. I am always interested in the politics of a new park and the influence it can have on the other surrounding attractions. Sometimes I think that Disney does not believe it can be competed with because it is well… Disney but as their prices keep growing and the interests of the younger pipulation change further and further towards anime and aways from classic fairy tales Disney will start to see depleating attencence year to year. Slowly but surely they will shift their ways and improve their parks with new movies that are more fitting to the new generation of attendees. Personally I really hope that shift doesn’t happen until I am to old to care because I enjoy the classic fairy tales. But that is what I grew up on.
If theater doesn’t work out my backup career is Disney Imagineering. Their attention to detail and vigorous world building creates a timeless sense of childhood wonder. This is what universal lacks. Universal has a lot of cool franchises under its belt but ultimately lacks a cohesive theme that connects them all. What does Mario have in common with Harry Potter and Frankenstein? I have no idea! While Disney has already capitalized on imagination and wonder, other companies could focus on innovation or other themes. Theme parks are such a unique experience, sure the rides are great, but I go for world building. How is it that you can walk from Toontown to Tomorrowland to Galaxy’s edge and feel like you’re instantly transported into a different world? It’s truly magic, theatrical magic that is. I only wish these experiences could be more easily accessible to the greater population. Ultimately, theme parks are to make money, but what if free immersive art experiences popped up in cities, with the same level of detail and whimsy, and then moved to a different city.
Six billion dollar is insane. I wonder what all that money is going towards! I would love to see a budget breakdown of this project. I also am wondering.. where do they put the park? How do they decide where is the best place to locate the park for maximum financial success? Cause once that park is built, it is built forever and you cannot move it. Maybe you could, but it would be a pain in the ass to move it. I wonder what kind of data analysts they hire to decide the best possible location to place the park. Also! I love How To Train Your Dragon and I am very excited for this park. I heard about it maybe a year ago. I also think its interesting this article mentioned Disney is creating a rival park because my dad is an illustrator/concept artist and Disney asked him to do the concept art for the park. It is Disney villain-themed, like all of the classic Disney villains. That's super exciting because Disney needs to do more stuff with their classics. Their new movies and shows are shit. They need to return to their roots.
