Okay I'm really happy that we get in The Great Gatsby are winning words along with many other TV shows and live shows that were talked about in this article but specifically, I want to talk about The Great Gatsby because it originally started at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey and I got to see it before transfer to Broadway but I know one of the people who was on the original team for Wig design he was like he was not the wig designer but he was installing them everyday he worked with the weights basically so I'm very happy to see that the Great Gatsby on Broadway is winning awards for their wigs and makeup because I just know that the people who worked on that production works really hard for it to get to Broadway and they're hard work is paying off. and I'm not shocked that Wicked is winning Awards. Wicked is incredibly amazing and I love it so dearly so I think they deserve these Awards and it's no shocker that they are winning these.
This article caught my attention because I have recently had an increased interest in styling hair, due to my wardrobe assignment on Ghosts. I had never heard of the MUAHS awards before, so this was an interesting read and provided me with inspirational material as I continue to experiment with hairstyling. Among the winners mentioned, Wicked and Bridgerton were what I was most familiar with. The Queen’s hairstyles in Bridgerton were absolutely stunning, and the detail in the design and execution was masterful. In Wicked, the hairstyles took a backseat to the costumes, but without the amazing microbraids in Cynthia Erivo's hair, and the curls in Madam Morribles's hair, they would not have come across the same.
I also appreciated reading about hairstylists and productions that I was unfamiliar with, as this will give me a chance to engage with new material. Overall spring break, I look forward to using this information to try styles with my own hair.
I feel like hair and makeup is one of the most forgotten and ignored aspects of the theater industry because it is something very present in our day to day life. It's not every day that you get to see a performance but you will see someone walking down the street in a full face of makeup. Then when you do get to see magnificent pieces of art painted on peoples faces it comes as less of a shock that the dramatic lighting of special effects also present on the stage. But they deserve to be recognized for the hard work that goes into both the design process and practical application because it is extremely challenging and important. If an actor goes on stage with no makeup everyone in the audience can tell and it makes the production somewhat off putting making the department detrimental to putting on a good production.
