While I scrolled through this list I was largely unsurprised. I saw mostly newer versions of the same tools that we have been using for years and years. I even gave a little chuckle when I saw a linked YouTube video with a man in the thumbnail looking extremely wowed by all of these new tools. However, there was one tool that caught my eye. The Makita XDefense Tool Management System. Apparently, you can take your tools and your batteries and hook them up to your computer. After you do that, you can give them a pin code, and from there on out, your tools will only work with batteries that have the same pin code. While I see the value behind this, as it could help prevent other people from steeling your tools, I am curious about the actual work to usefulness ratio of this product. Is tool theft really a big enough problem, and this a quality enough solution in order for this to truly be a worthwhile purchase? I'm not sure. However, this may inspire other similar products that might make that purchase worth it.
