Broadway's Operation Mincemeat Marquee Is Delayed by New Tariffs
Playbill: Though the Broadway transfer of Olivier winner Operation Mincemeat is slated to begin previews February 15, the marquee of the Golden Theatre is still dark. The reason? New tariffs on imports from China imposed by President Donald Trump, DKC/O&M (who handles press inquiries for the production) president and Rick Miramontez told AP News. Playbill confirmed the information with production representatives.

People often think of theatre and art as this separate type of world from our daily lives. Many people go their whole lives without thinking of the financial impact of the theatrical world on everyday life. Theatre plays a large role, however. Think of New York City, New York is a mega capital of almost everything in the world, and a huge part of what makes New York such an attractive city to live in and visit is the culture and prevalence of theatre that exists. The glitz and glam of the city is lit by the marquees lining Broadway. But of course, people wouldn’t think that tariffs would affect theatre that much. And the marquees of all things. This is the new reality though. Tariffs, along with the endless other restrictions and orders being placed by the Trump administration, are affecting every single aspect of Americans' lives. If it can be seen this quickly already, I wonder how these tariffs will further affect the American theatre industry and if it will stifle levels of production and progress.
