Arianne Phillips has such a cool and distinct costume history. Working from girl interrupted to having styled Courtney love herself is absolutely insane to me and scratches my brain in the absolute right way. Styling courtney love must have been an absolute hell in its own way, but its a little bit totally awesome since courtney love even as a singular name on its own is now seen as such an iconic style just by the name when it comes to a grunge-y babydoll dress. I think the costumes in a complete unknown were absolutely aesthetically pleasing and generally accurate (according to my skewed young perspective that knows so little about bob dylan). Arianne philips seems to have a great grasp on character, which is very important when styling celebrities and iconic household name musicians. The verbal decision of the stylist or costume designer is funny to me because I think they are absolutely the same thing. As a stylist you need to thoroughly know and be able to develop the character and general persona of a celebrity through their clothing.
