Carolina Theatre to Reopen After 50 Years
AMERICAN THEATRE: Originally built in 1927, the Carolina Theatre is being restored to its original condition and will reopen on March 7, the 98th anniversary of its original opening. As a preeminent cultural venue, the Carolina Theatre hosted live shows, including by such fixtures as Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra, and feature films, including a record-breaking run of the movie The Sound of Music, which played to nearly 400,000 people (more than the population of Charlotte) in the mid-1960s.
