Plans Unveiled for Downtown Pittsburgh's New ‘Arts Landing'
www.pittsburghmagazine.com: It’s now called Arts Landing — that 4-acre 8th Street Block Civic Space that is poised to be “one of the most transformative projects” in the Cultural District in 25 years, said Kendra Whitlock Ingram, the president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.

I am so excited for this to happen, and I am so happy that it’s happening while I am still studying here! I’m really interested to see how they pull this off within the next year. It seems like such a huge project, yet their goal is to open before the 2026 NFL draft, which I think is a weird motivator, but that’s besides the point. I agree, there is so much love for the arts in Pittsburgh that isn’t known to the rest of the U.S., and I’m glad that there is going to finally be a “Broadway” here. Downtown Pittsburgh is such an interesting place to be, but unless you’re seeing a show or event or eating at a cool restaurant, there’s not many more motivators. The city realized that, which is quoted in the article, and I’m really excited for another motivator to go to Downtown Pittsburgh!
I think the Arts Landing project sounds super awesome. The idea of having a big lawn with river views and a bandshell is such a vibe that's perfect for concerts or just hanging out. And I love that there’s a mix of chill zones, family spots, and even pickleball courts. It feels like there’s something for everyone. I think by having Field Operations involved, especially with their work on NYC High Line, gives me a lot of confidence this’ll be more than just another park and another project that never happens. Tying the timeline to the NFL Draft seems like a lot of pressure, but if it pushes the city to step up, I’m all for it. I think this will bring a lot more attraction to the downtown area and make it so that it feels like less of a dead town and much more lively. Plus, making this the home of the Three Rivers Arts Festival just feels right.
