What to Expect at Lightapalooza 2025
Residential Systems: Like the ascending films in the Fast & the Furious franchise, each new Lightapalooza raises the stakes from the previous one, and the 2025 edition is no different. The fourth iteration of the event will be taking place in a brand-new, more spacious locale — the Hilton Anatole Dallas — from January 20-23 and lean further into its education focus with an added track presented by esteemed university professors and researchers.

Before today I had never heard of Lightapalooza I had only heard of other conferences such as USITT. But what I found really interesting while reading this article was the conference's focus on education. It's hard to find events in today's world that allow for the best and newest in a technical field to come together, intermingle and learn from one another. The emphasis on education is also cemented in the different exhibition rooms present in the event. Having speakers from all different parts of the industry and a keynote speaker allows attendees to choose what they want to learn about and how nerdy they want to get. Overall this conference sounds incredibly interesting and as if one could actually learn something.
I would LOVE to attend Lightapalooza. I checked out their website and they have a whole bunch of educational sessions. I wonder if they would take a student and not a professional. I also wonder if registration to the event is limited only to professionals and not students. I think its really cool that they have professionals and experts from lots of different industries which focus on lighting, such as lighting design, concert lighting, event lighting, corporate event specialists, even people who design lighting systems in houses and art museums. I will definitely look into going!
It’s fun to think that every year lighting designers from all over come to one specific event and socialize with each other. Lighting designers from what Ive seen really like being up to date on the latest technology and are very curious about the new leaps being done in the lighting technology world so it makes sense to me that there is an event completely dedicated to displaying this technology for them to see. Also rather than just displaying new technology this event seems to focus on educating people on lighting as well, which I think is a wonderful idea. Instead of just showing people are teaching and explaining which I think does more than any exhibition could, it’s more beneficial to when they go outside the event as well as they will be more knowledgeable in their fields which may help them with any situations they encounter in their jobs
Lighting has always captured me in the countless ways it can be used to shape a world on stage, on set, or in an exhibit. While a lot of people don’t notice the light in a room, they notice when it doesn’t look right and doesn’t match their subconscious expectations of how a room should look. Because of this, lighting is super important, and learning as much about it as I can is something that I’ve been chasing for years. Learning about Lightapalooza inspires me because I’m realizing that so many other like-minded people love lighting and will gather just to learn from one another and collaborate with the newest technology on the market. From the showcase rooms to the auditoriums with keynote speakers, Lightapalooza sounds like an incredible experience for those who are deep in the lighting design world and love to be around others who share that passion. Someday in the future I would love to attend this event and meet all the people who are currently working in the industry.
