This is so cool. I keep seeing articles about cool new rides/attractions opening or being designed and I love reading and looking at them. To be honest though, after seeing a few over the last weeks, I’m starting to feel a little bit like very many of them are very similar; obviously they are designed specifically for whatever movie/book/character/etc they are centered around, but at the end of the day the rides in this one specifically feel sort of like a preexisting ride is just being masked to make it on-theme. This isn’t really a bad thing necessarily, it’s just something I’ve noticed and hadn’t thought too much about before. It sounds super fun and cool and interesting to be on the team of people who designs all the props and details that go into these experiences, since the artistry behind the designs is the true work that goes into a new park or ride or attraction, and that artistry seems to largely be applied to preexisting technologies and rides.

I am so excited for this epic universe makeover that Universal orlando is receiving. For so long it has felt like Disney has a monopoly of the florida theme park world and it is nice to see Universal create something on par if not better than what Disney has been creating. I hope this health competition continues to drive innovation in the coming decades. These rendering and overhead construction photos look like something right out of a storybook. The grass roofs and architectural elements succeed in giving the "Isle of Berk" a whimsical viking feel. With the adventure of riding a dragon transferring perfectly into a thrill ride I am almost shocked that this world was not created sooner but, with how anti J.K. Rowling the world has become I am thankful Universal is focusing on creating an immersive world outside Harry Potter and excited to see the final product in the future.

I’ve never been to Universal, but I really want to go someday. How to Train Your Dragon is such a whimsical and feel-good movie. Honestly, I didn’t know it was popular enough to warrant a section at the park. Regardless, these pictures look so cool! I love seeing “in progress” pictures and it was fun to cross reference them with the conceptual rendering. The amount of design and attention to detail that goes into this is probably insane. Even more stressful seeing as there are so many safety requirements and things involved. I wonder how big the team that creates and designs it is. According to the article, they started to construct and plan to open eight months later. Is this a fast or short turnaround for these kinds of attractions, I wonder? The amount of fields there are that employ artistic design never ceases to amaze me.

I went to Universal with my friends over spring break last year, and it was one of the most fun trips I've been on in a while. While we were there, we saw the start of construction for this new world, and this new park looks actually insane. I need to go back when it opens to the public. Something I was mainly intrigued by was the How to Train Your Dragon section of this park. When I heard that the area is going to offer rides like Hiccup’s Wing Gliders roller coaster and Fyre Drill boat ride, plus a stage show, I started to get really excited, so I looked into it more, and with a grand opening day set for May 2025, Isle of Berk is just one part of the excitement because another one of my favorite things on this planet, Harry Potter, is getting a new park addition as well as a super nintendo world!
