SAG-AFTRA Releases 129-Page Deal Doc for Review During Vote

www.thewrap.com: SAG-AFTRA released the draft of their deal with the major studios Friday, known as a memorandum of agreement. While they’ve released shorter summaries of the actors’ tentative deal before, this 129-page document dives deeper into specifics as AI protections remain a flashpoint in the ongoing vote by members.

This article is about how SAG-AFTRA released their document detailing the new agreement they’ve reached in their union negotiations. I'm really interested to see how a part of this document, the section regarding AI substitutes for actors and AI simulation of real actors, plays with the models that have already been developed for the entertainment industry. One thing I’m interested to learn more about is hair and makeup equity. I’m not entirely sure what this means, and is only mentioned briefly by the article. My mind immediately goes to that interview with Jim Carrey, in which he details how horrible the makeup process was for the grinch live action movie. Something I’ve never thought of before is how members of the union actually vote on these new deal documents. With elections in the US there is a physical polling place, but with something like a union is it all done virtually? Are these elections potentially susceptible to attacks from studios wishing to reenter negotiations? There are a lot of logistics I’d like to know more about when it comes to union elections.
