This article was really interesting to me for many reasons. My cousin is an entrepreneur and developed the AR technology for Warby-Parker that allows you to see how any pair of glasses they sell would look on your face. He has talked to me about AR and XR and the advancements in the field that are focused on connecting technology to our real-world experiences and seeing how we can implement technology into every aspect of our lives. Some of the advantages and applications of AR/VR/XR that are mentioned in the article are things that I have never thought about before: Connecting patients with doctors, interactive educational experiences, 3D structuring technology, making more efficient workspaces, etc. Carnegie Mellon University is always on the forefront of technological advancement and that is one of the things that excites me about this university: we are always striving to be the makers of the future, not the preservers of the present.

I clicked on this article because I saw it was Carnegie Mellon related, I actually had no idea what XR was or what is stands for. XR stands for extended reality, and apparently Carnegie Mellon has an Extended Reality Technology Center, which is so cool! I feel like I still do not have a full understanding and grasp of what it is, but it seems as though it helps enhance parts of life like work, education, and healthcare. The Center will be a place to bring together research from various departments and universities. They recently hosted its first symposium, which seemed so cool and I will definitely try to go to the next one because I think it will help me further understand what this technology is. I also am impressed about their sponsorships from PNC and Fujitsu. I hope that proper safety and security measures are taken with this new technology, similar to how Artificial Intelligence entering our daily lives is being handled.
