Can ChatGPT write a better theater review than a paid critic? Here’s what we found

Datebook: When I first logged in to ChatGPT, the free tool that uses artificial intelligence to spit out writing on any subject, it asked me to certify that I was not a robot. There was no “Not yet” option.

This is a heartening article compared to some of the others I’ve read about the increasing prevalence of artificial intelligence. There seems to be a lot of worry and speculation about whether AI could take over jobs or emulate human creativity in some way. The response to it varies, but some people are feeling disheartened and wanting to get out of fields that can be replicated in this way. I like this view better – that AI is an opportunity; not a sign that a computer can take over for human writing, but a challenge to do better and employ more precision of language and compelling lines of thought. If AI can write better than us (which so far, it objectively can’t), that is simply a sign that we must learn to write better than the AI. It can spur us forward, rather than stagnating us. I appreciate that point of view from Lily in this article.
