I will be very interested to see how this musical turns out. I am a huge fan of the book a Wrinkle in Time and have read it both as a kid and again as an adult. And I have found that there are so many more deep meanings in the book that go right over your head as a kid. It makes me wonder how they will be able to properly encapsulate all of the deeper meanings into a musical adaptation. I love the idea, don't get me wrong, I just have some reservations that they will have to cut out parts and pieces to appeal to a wider audience that I personally would miss. I have no doubt that this musical will be wildly successful, even based on the success of the book. I will definitely be going to see it whenever it makes its way to stages and tours. I will also be very excited to see what they do with casting. I think that the recent Disney movie version of the book did an amazing job of casting the characters and I can't wait to see if they follow suit in the musical with a diverse cast. Any way, I will be keeping a close eye on this production.
I'm actually really interested in seeing this. A Wrinkle in Time was a book that was very near and dear to me as a kid. I think there are a lot of ways that live theatre can lend itself to heighten the magic of A Wrinkle in Time. Honestly I see a lot of opportunities for really cool transitions. I do think that, for brevity's sake, certain plot elements will have to be downplayed. I just hope that whoever is in charge of the actual script will make the right choices in regards to which things need to be left out in order for the show to work./
Honestly I wish more books should see stage adaptations. In Baltimore at the now defunct Cohesion Theatre company I saw a play rendition of the Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere which was incredible. I didn't realize it had been made into a movie so I think I should check that out.
A Wrinkle in Time is one of my all time favorite books from when I was a child. I remember reading and rereading this book, imagining the fantastic world in which it could take place. When the movie version of it came out, I remember being absolutely astounded by the production and design of it. Now that there is a plan to turn it into a musical and take it to broadway, I can only imagine how a stage version of this story could come to life. There are so many directions that this show could be taken in, each cooler, more exciting, and more complicated than the last. Even the article says that this show feels "gloriously impossible to stage." I am so excited to see what happens with this show and how they will bring it to life while staying true to the story and its original imaginative and wondrous world.
