Underground Overground Comedy's latest show is coming to Katz's Delicatessen this fall

www.timeout.com/newyork: Underground Overground Comedy has hosted comedy shows in some of the unlikeliest places around town (a laundromat, a barbershop and a tattoo parlor, to name a few), but the event producers have always dreamed of hosting a show at Katz’s Delicatessen.

Wait I love this. We’ve heard of site-specific theatre, now we’ve got site-specific comedy. And in such an iconic New York City Jewish deli at that. It’s unclear to me from this article whether this location has ties to the type of content that will be given, but it seems like it has excellent potential. The underground way to get tickets of “you gotta know someone” or “you gotta get your hands on this google form” adds to the whole experience. Although, I hope there’s somewhat of a system in place to allow people outside the circle to enjoy the experience. And while getting that giant pastrami sandwich is definitely a perk—it’s definitely smart that it’s given after the show because it seems like a real choking hazard. Being that Katz’s Deli is such a landmark, I wonder how much it costs this comedy team to rent it out..and if they get the turnout they’re expecting.

I think it is really cool that art is beginning to appear in more unlikely places. I always think it is really cool to be immersed in different art forms when you least expect it, especially when you’re with people who might not always want to attend art related events. For example, over the summer, I went to Ireland with my friend and his family, and we went to a pub all together. While we were there, there was a surprise Irish dancing show. It was really cool to experience it with all of them together, especially since his dad and brother were the types to immerse themselves in sports rather than the arts scene. His dad got really into the performance after seeing how much I was enjoying it, which was really cool to see. It is always super fun to watch the arts bring people together unexpectedly, and I’m glad I was able to be there to watch it all happen.
