Unfortunately, I have experienced some form of each of the challenges described by the women on this panel. It’s truly inspiring the way each of these successful women have pushed and fought to overcome the challenges presented to them in order to achieve the positions and respect they are clearly qualified for and deserving of. Being a woman, especially a woman of color, tech theater is a challenge in itself. There are all of these (conscious and subconscious) biases against women that influence those in higher positions to almost look down on us. I, myself, have had to push a little extra or be a little more “firm” in order to be truly heard. I hope that more discussions like this start happening and that theaters around the world start to look at the way they include women in the industry. Just having us there isn’t enough. We deserve the same respect and opportunity as anyone else.
