Overall, this article sounds like good news for a still recovering Broadway and greater theater community. As things get back into full swing, high and steady attendance is good news for Broadway. There is some interesting things to note however in the particular shows they mentioned. While I am not surprised that attendance for The Kite Runner increased, I am surprised that it is still so low. I saw this show last week and in my opinion, it is one the best shows I have seen on Broadway. It was an incredibly powerful show and I think everyone should go see it. I was also surprised to hear that Into The Woods has been decreasing so much in sales and attendance. Finally, every new piece of news I hear about Leopoldstadt makes me want to see it even more. It sounds like an amazing show and according to the grosses, theater-goers are agreeing with that sentiment.
I’m not too familiar with Broadway show grosses and trends, but it seems to me like Broadway is in a good shape right now. For a play to be breaking $1 million, that’s pretty good. Especially when it’s new. Leapoldstadt is one of the plays I really want to see right now and I’m happy to hear that it’s doing well attendance wise and income wise. I’m not surprised that The Music Man, Hamilton, and MJ are the highest-grossing productions. Especially as holiday season gears up, I’m sure audiences will be close to full capacity and there will be lots of money being brought in. I’m not too sure if I’m surprised or not about Into The Woods dip though. For a show that popular, I thought it would be doing better. I mean, it is the first time they’ve dipped below $1 million, but who knows what that could mean for the rest of their run.
