Once this type of all-encompassing software is effectively developed in a way that is inexpensive and easy for users to use, theater can definitely steal this type of software eventually. That being said, it wouldn’t be surprising if we continue doing things the way we always have because it’s just simpler that way. Budgeting software (which is mentioned as part of this overarching contractor software) is something that exists and can be purchased, but at least in the school of drama, it’s easier to just use custom-built spreadsheets. The most important thing that we desperately need and would save time and energy in our world right now is an effective way of disseminating new and changing information. It’s possible slack may be able to fill this niche for us with custom chat rooms, but miscommunications from director to shop floor are common and the way we try to do it now is everything is funneled through one person which is much more difficult on a larger scale.
I can now say that I know what construction management is. Frankly, I decided to read this article out of mere curiosity and wanting to be a bit more knowledgeable of terminology that may begin to be used more commonly, which I think is fair. I am in big support of finding more ways of keeping track of anything that needs to be kept track of, so even though I would not be the person handling this software, I would probably be around people who are. Regarding the software itself, I think it is exciting that it can be accessed from mobile devices. You can practically do everything from your phone if you really wanted to and it is just generally nice to know this can also be handled from anywhere you are without the need of a computer. By taking out of the equation that needs to be stationed, a more efficient way of managing a business can be achieved.
