The New York Times: The New York City arts scene is about to pass another milestone on the road to reopening: The Shed, a large performing arts venue in Hudson Yards, said Wednesday that it would hold a series of indoor performances next month for limited audiences in which everyone has either been tested for the coronavirus or vaccinated against it.

I have made jokes about people having to show "proof of vaccination" to get into public events but now that it is a reality I can honestly say that I don't think the world has ever been more like a fictional universe. I am very excited about event spaces and theatre in specific to open back up as soon as possible, however I think requiring audiences to show proof that they are negative or fully vaccinated is almost funny. I obviously understand the importance of this requirement in order to protect the patrons, performers, and crew during a performance. It does remind me a little bit of a dystopian novel, though I might be showing my nerd here. If more public places start requiring identification that a person is "safe" it seems like it could either encourage more people to get the vaccine by alienating those who don't have it, or it could turn into a very elitist thing to have one's vaccination card and be able to get into places. However it is also quite possible that I am just over exaggerating this in my head to seem like a fiction novel.
I think that this is a very great idea and an idea that should be much more widespread in the industry. We have the skills, power, and knowledge to give everyone a test at the door of a theatre, or check for vaccination cards upon entrance. I think this is the only real way to ensure everyone will be safe when they sit inside the theatre for the show. Closing down the entire industry for the pandemic was extremely hard on the workers who depended on shows as their jobs. While I definitely felt and still feel the effects of that, I can not quite understand the full effect of how this played out for people that have their entire revenue stream coming from theatre. I truly believe we need a starting point to reopening the industry and this is a safe and foolproof way to do it and should serve as a model for other theatre groups and entertainment groups to reopen.
