Broadway organizers stitch together a relief proposal. They hope it holds.
Broadway News: A group of Broadway businesses and arts organizations have banded together to ensure the theater ecosystem makes it through the shutdown.
The current aim of the group is a state proposal for direct relief to the arts sector. While Broadway has been offered federal relief through the Save Our Stages provision, those grants leave out many of its affiliated businesses or workers who have been severely impacted by the yearlong theater closures.

I have been following the Costume Industry since its inception. I think it has played a tremendous role in keeping the costume shops and artisans alive They have raised so much money through donations. But in addition to this they have done an auctions and the etsy pattern as listed. I had no idea that the pattern had created that much money! That is truly incredible. I really hope they do more of the patterns from a different show on broadway. I have also signed petitions and sent letter to senators as generated by the Costume Industry Coalition which was very easy to do. Another thing they ave been doing is giving a glimpse into the process of what it takes to create a broadway costume. It is always so interesting to hear from their member highlights and learn about all of the different shops in new york.- Evan Riley
It's honestly heartbreaking to see these skilled craftspeople left to fend for themselves during the pandemic. I’m so relieved they all had the ingenuity to start selling patterns, crowdsourcing donations and making use of their incredibly honed skill sets, but they really shouldn't have had to. Why couldn't the state and federal governments have stepped in sooner, in a more inclusive manner. How could they forget about such a huge community of behind the scenes workers in the theatre industry? It’s disgraceful, especially when compared to other countries who provided fully for their citizens during the lockdown. These craftspeople shouldn't have to write their own relief bill to survive. They are artists, not policy makers. Something is truly wrong with our system when citizens are forced to argue why they should have funds to stay alive. That being said, I truly hope they get the financial help they need from this.
