Filming in Montreal was down last year, but insiders expect record 2021
Montreal Gazette: Hollywood production in Montreal decreased big time last year because of the pandemic, dipping from $360 million a year earlier to $189 million in 2020. Filming stopped completely between March and July and U.S. filming only really restarted in September. But industry insiders believe 2021 could be a record year for Hollywood shooting here.

It is honestly refreshing seeing a COVID-related article that is finally hopeful and positive, with some real number predictions to make it substantial. When the pandemic first started, I was skeptical of a boom in the entertainment industry after it ended, because I thought people were only saying that to be optimistic. Since the pandemic has gone on so long, however, it is plausible to me that streaming sites need new content to keep customers engaged as not much has been uploaded throughout the pandemic, but the amount of time people spend on those sites has increased. It is exciting that there is real financial motivation behind a resurgence of the entertainment industry, because I feel a lot more confident that some kind of boom will happen when it is supported by these numbers. Specifically, in this article, it is interesting how filming in Montreal will increase because of worries and complications with other travel destinations, but it makes a lot of sense.
