Ruth Carter Tapped 39 Fashion Designers for ‘Coming 2 America’
WWD: If you thought Wakanda was stylish, wait until you see Zamunda.
Costume legend Ruth E. Carter has outdone herself with “Coming 2 America,” the sequel to the 1988 comedy classic “Coming to America” that starred Eddie Murphy as Prince Akeem Joffer, crown prince of the fictional African nation Zamunda, who travels to America to find a bride.

This article was so interesting and thorough. I did not know about this project but now it sounds like something I would enjoy. Ruth Carter is truly one of the greatest film designers of our time and I am so happy that she received a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Her work is so exquisite in any film she works on and to hear her process on her most recent project is so inspiring. It is incredible to hear that she has collaborated with up and coming black fashion designers for the film. This shows how she has come to a point in her career where she needs to nurture the upcoming designers and pass on her legacy. I think Ruth Carter has also played a great role into introducing African styles of fashion and dress to our pop culture with her groundbreaking work on Black Panther. -Evan Riley
First off, I have been looking forward to the film "Coming to America2" ever since i saw the trailer and I am so happy this long awaited sequel is coming. What i didn't know when watching the trailer is that the bad ass Ruth Carter is going to be designing the costumes for this amazing film about a futuristic kingdom. The article talks about Ruth Carter receiving the hollywood star of fame which is absolutely deserved given her immense sucess in everything that she touches. But the part of the article that I found the most intriguing is the articles title: the fact that Ruth carter decided to collaborate with all of these amazing Bipoc fashion designers for the project. I completely agree with Evan that this is the natural ascension of the artist from creator to mentor, and she is spending her time bringing upcoming blck designers to the table. I cannot wait to she what they did with the films costumes.
