I think that most people can understand what situational awareness is but I feel that many lack the ability or drive to implement procedures that will keep people safer in the workplace. I know that I fail to follow all safety measures all the time because at some point it just gets in the way of the work! I think it is very important to be as aware as possible because yes it is important to know what rules need to be followed but you need to have an understanding of when rules shouldn’t restrict the work that needs to get done. There is a difference between mindfully neglecting a rule and straight-up not knowing it or breaking it for the sake of not caring. I like the tie to the US Airforce, it’s an interesting cross over and it’s good to see that skills and procedures are transferable from different industries and disciplines (also my parents were in the Airforce)
