Meyer Sound Spacemap Go Intensifies Auditory Experience At AREA15 In Las Vegas

ProSoundWeb: At AREA15, a new art and entertainment district located minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, one of the principal attractions is a space called “The Portal” where visitors can plunge into a 360-degree projection-mapped video experience supported by immersive audio enabled by Meyer Sound’s new Spacemap Go spatial sound design and live mixing tool.

Something about quote-unquote 'immersive spaces' having 4 walls always throws me off. I don't know why, but I've come to expect more out of these installations that keep popping up as instagram-candy. And the word immersive can set such high expectations for the audience, it's come to be a buzz-word with no real meaning. That being said, I would hope that the audio in this space could bridge that gap and connect the audience more closely with the visual experience of the environment. The idea of spatial audio is so interesting to me, how you can really craft an experience in any setting to feel like you are in a completely different environment, all based on audio processing and positioning. I am a little confused as to how the high-end spatial audio will be used, since the space seems to be billed as a meeting and event space, like a themed convention center.

I think that spatial audio is one of the keys to a successfully immersive experience. Disney’s Pandora and Galaxy’s Edge have incredibly immersive audio sequences, as well as audio that is integrated to some of Disney’s attractions. The audio makes the experience more memorable and thanks to Spotify, gives guests an opportunity to use audio to remember the experience well after it is over. AREA15 looks like an incredible experience if the audio pairing is successful. The projections look beautiful and the audio could take it over the top. The abstract designs look like a wonderful experience, although it does have the potential to become an overwhelming sensory experience. I hope to one day experience this in person or at least watch videos to see how effective it is in the end. Even the exterior view looks pretty cool. I wonder if it changes at all or if the interior is more of what changes.
